Flyers general manager Ron Hextall and other members of the organization have hinted pretty strongly that they think Frost needs one additional year of junior hockey before he is pro ready.

Thinking about this... Saying that he won't make the team - they pretty much have to say this. There are 4 sets of basic scenarios; If they said he'll make the team and doesn't - isn't good. If they said he'll make the team and does - still isn't great, it sets very high expectations. If they said that he won't make the team, and doesn't - they were right. If they said that he won't make the team, and does - well, it should build confidences although it will set expectations.

Good stuff Bill and it's awesome what they did for that poor cancer patient. However, did you really have to remind me that a piece of steaming monkey crap named Ulf Samuelsson actually played for Flyers at one point. I couldn't stand before he got to Philly and I hated him when he was here.

Yeah, I hear you, but Hextall is usually pretty straight up about these kids. I really think Bill is right, he will have to completely and utterly blow them away, to make the Flyers this season. Another year in Junior and a chance to play at the WJC won't do him any harm.

Once again, I’m with BiggE. I absolutely hated Ulfie. He was another cheap shot artist who failed to answer the bell after his antics!🤮

There aren't a lot of Flyers I've truly hated each and every moment they wore the uniform, but he's one of them. The others that quickly come to mind are Marc Bureau and Billy Tibbets.

Ulf Samuelsson
Marc Bureau
Billy Tibbetts

The only 3 players I actively cheered against as members of the Flyers. There were other players I didn't like (Roman Vopat, Dan LaCroix, Kyle Calder to name a few), but that was because they just weren't good players. But those 3 I actually wished misfortune upon.

Marc Bureau, for the most part, is a very obscure hockey player as he never did much of note in his career. But to fans of the mid-90s Flyers, he will forever be hated. Worst cheap shot I've ever seen outside of stick swinging incidents.

Edit: Despite his off-ice problems, I will forever love Craig McTavish as a player.

With less than a month to go now, this is how I expect the Flyers to line up for the opening game.

Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
JVR-Patrick-Voracek
Lindblom-Weal-Simmonds
Lehtera-Laughton-Raffl
Leier, Weise

Provorov-Ghost
Hagg-MacDonald
Sanheim-Gudas
Folin

Pretty close to how I see it with just a change on the 4th line. I think Aube-Kubel will win that 4RW spot and the line will be:

Raffl-Laughton-NAK
spare: Lehtera
spare or waived: Weise/Leier

I didn't hate Linseman from the moment he was drafted, hell I didn't know anything about the guy at that point. His antics could be infuriating, but he did produce and while he often frustrated me, I never hated him.

I honestly don't remember Ulf here. Pens and Rags of course, and for that alone, is reason enough to hate him.

3C is an unknown and that 4th line will be jostled quite a bit, but otherwise you're right.

I agree. Bill is reporting what he's hearing and seeing. And, Hextall is conservative and he has the time and track record to keep the kid in Juniors. But, my point was - regardless of the situation - Hextall would never "publicly" say Frost (or any rookie, bubble player) was a lock on the team or even had a very good shot. Even if, Hextall felt like the kid was going to make the team.

Agreed, but you can kind of read between the lines with him though. When he spoke about Provorov or Patrick, he said stuff along the lines of "we'll see in camp, if they earn a spot, it will be there for them" When it comes to Frost, he's been more like "well anything is possible, but we really think he needs to get stronger and continue to work on his game"

Was at that game and was sure Svoboda (It WAS Peter, right?) was dead. the blood coming out of his ear. When Brind'amour reached down to touch his skate I started crying, remembering that Paul Wylie did that and prayed when Sergei Grinkov dropped dead one day on the ice in Lake Placid. It was awful.

I don't think it has anything to do with what they have to say and everything to do with what they believe at this point in time. We'll see if Frost can change their mind. I doubt it.

That was wild. I had forgotten about that. That was the 94-95 season or the year after?

I still see a possible move for a 4th line pk center. When Hextall was talking about a possible PK, character guy I was thinking about a guy like Derek McKenzie. I know older but on last year of a deal, still had good wheels and was solid PK

I agree. My point was that Hextall plays his cards close to the chest... He will respond to questions with a "political" answer, not what he believes. Like BiggE said, you have to read between the lines. But, I think the fans in general (me included) - want to hear Hextall say that rookie player X is a lock.. And, it will never happen.

It was 95/96. I watched it on TV and it looked like the blood was coming from the back of his head. I was pretty sure he was dead.
